Judge Throws Out Discrimination Lawsuit Against Angels Baseball
A judge recently threw out a case involving alleged sex and age discrimination against Angels Baseball. The case is yet another example of the ridiculous lengths to which people will go for money.
On Mother's Day in 2005, Angels stadium was giving away red purses filled with a bunch of different things to women ages 18 or older (because it was Mother's Day). The lawsuit alleged that the free giveaway somehow discriminated against men and children.
Clearly, the idiot spearheading the lawsuit does not know the definition of a mother because had he known that information, he would have realized that neither men nor kids could possibly fall under the mother category.
The judge threw out the case on the basis that the items were free and therefore he could not use the complaint of discrimination over these freebies.
What makes this situation even more ridiculous and just shows that the man was out to get some money was that he had written the Angels company a letter back in 2005 complaining about the rules for receiving one of the red gift bags.
In response, the company sent the man four, not one, but four of those bags. What he could have possibly done with four of those bags and the bags' contents is incomprehensible. (He probably would have attempted to sell those items or something to that effect).
Instead of graciously just accepting the bags and being done with the whole thing he sued for $4, 000 in damages per person. It was a class action lawsuit (meaning it involved more than just him.
The point of this little incident is to just comment on the sad state of affairs when people have to sue large companies over free items. It is idiotic, a waste of the courts' time and so obviously selfish (that the people involved in the suit ought to feel embarrassed).
This Angels incident is not the first time someone has sued a company over alleged discrimination. Everyone remembers the woman who sued Southwest after the airlines asked that she buy another seat to fit herself and the rest of her body so that she was comfortable and not infringing on the paid space of another passenger. That case was just plain common sense and had nothing to do with sensitivity or compassion issues on the part of the airline.
There was also a case where a man sued Hooters for not hiring him as a "Hooters Girl, " which is why the company now calls their servers "Hooters People." All of these lawsuits are so ridiculous and simply reek of greed. Not only that, but they reflect poorly on the values of some people in this country and lead to the generalization that people are litigation-happy in this country.
