Cam Newton Cheating Allegations Bring More Drama To Auburn Football
Cam Newton cheating allegations are coming out of the University of Florida now. These latest Newton allegations are sad for Auburn Football, which is dealing with a lot of off-the-field drama in the midst of one of their best seasons in college football.
According to Fox Sports, they have a source that has stated Auburn quarterback Cam Newton left the University of Florida after a cheating scandal surrounded his eligibility on the football team. Fox Sports claims to have a source that revealed three different instances where Newton cheated on his academics while at the University of Florida. It includes an allegation that Newton took someone else's paper that had been turned in, erased the name of the student that wrote it, and placed his name on the paper instead. He was allegedly caught in this instance when the professor asked the other student why he had never turned in a paper.
When Newton was asked to turn in another paper to the professor, it is alleged that he purchased it off the internet, and submitted yet another paper that was not his own. This and other instances were to have Newton placed in front of Florida's Student Conduct Committee in the spring semester of 2009, but rather than appear, the story states that Newton decided to transfer to Blinn College instead.
This is just the latest "red flag" when it comes to Cameron Newton's college career, but the question has to be asked whether it makes any difference to his time at Auburn. He isn't accused of cheating while at Auburn, he hasn't been found to be in possession of stolen property like he was at the University of Florida, and he hasn't been arrested again since he was while at Florida. By all reports, Newton has been on the straight-and-narrow since arriving at Auburn, and maybe he is indeed on the right path after learning from many of his mistakes in the past.
Should we care right now if Cameron cheated back in 2008 at the University of Florida? According to a statement that ESPN has, Newton thinks that it should stay in the past, and will not confirm or deny that it took place. He certainly wouldn't be the first student to go down a road like this, and he isn't going to be the last one either. Hopefully if he did steal someone else's paper, he apologized and tried to make rectify the situation. Hopefully he hasn't also done other things that were covered up by his universities along the way.
One thing is quite clear in all of this mess, and it is that someone out there doesn't like that Cameron has found such great success on the football field with Auburn. He has that team at 10-0 right now in a very tough SEC, and could very well be on the path to a Heisman Trophy win. Let's not let what might or might not have happened at the University of Florida cloud what he is now accomplishing. Even if he did everything that he is accused of, doesn't he deserve a second chance?
