Celtic Football Club

Celtic Football Club Celtic Football Club is a Scottish team that is based in Glasgow's Parkhead area. The club was founded in 1888 by an Irish Marist named Brother Walfrid. Brother Walfrid saw the club as an opportunity to raise money for a charity he had previously created, The Poor Children's Dinner Table.

At the meeting that saw the establishment of the football club, Brother Walfrid made the executive decision on calling the club Celtic, he did this as the wanted to connect the team to its Irish and Scottish roots.

The team of founders rented a patch of land, nearby to the current location of the stadium, for 50 per annum, the local community transformed the patch of ground into a football pitch. Just 6 months after putting the finishing touches to the pitch, Celtic played their first match and won it against Glasgow Rangers who have since become Celtic's biggest rival team. Together, today, the teams are known as the Old Firm as their growing rivalry dates back to 1888.

Today, Celtic play at Celtic Park, known also as Parkhead and Paradise to Celtic supporters. It has a maximum capacity of 60, 837. This is the biggest capacity for a stadium in Scotland.

Even today the team wear the green and white striped shirt for home games.

During the year of 1939, Celtic became record holders of having the largest home crowd of 92, 000 when they faced rivals Glasgow Rangers.
